Rutherford Equine Services was started in 1999 on my return to Ontario from Langley, British Columbia where I was one of 5 veterinarians at an equine surgical/medicine referral hospital which also included a very busy ambulatory practice. My professional interests there continue with my own practice here – lameness, reproduction and always the need for dentistry and preventive medicine.

Returning to the ‘east’ also allowed me to become more involved in FEI competitions as an FEI veterinarian for dressage and eventing. There are few FEI sanctioned events in the west but numerous competitions in Ontario, Quebec and the US eastern seaboard – New York, Pennsylvannia and Kentucky. I have also been asked to join various selection committees for the Canadian National Dressage Team for Beijing in ’08, PanAm Games and the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky 2010. As well as numerous Young Riders selection committees for North American Championships in Canada and the United States. I have remained committed to assisting The Canadian Pony Club and speak at any meeting I am invited to help educate our future equestrians.
